The Great Saturday Morning Debacle

Good Mornin' ya'll!!  Don't worry, I don't use that term all the time so don't think I'm some sort of Southern Belle or Redneck Hillbilly.  My Nebraska roots run deep.  Well it's Saturday morning and I am faced with the Great Saturday Morning Debacle.  Do I a) go back to bed while snuggling with my baby girl or b) stay awake and get things done so I can take a nap with my baby girl this afternoon?  Decisions, decisions.  I think I'll go with the latter.  My washer & dryer are out in the garage and I would like to get all the laundry done before it gets too hot outside.  I am about half way done so I should beat the heat.  I also need to do some cooking today. We are going over to our friends' house tonight and I am bringing meat wrapped pickles, cucumber & onion salad and strawberry poke cake dessert.  I also need to go to the tag office to get my car licensed since it's the last day of the month.  Yep that's me, the procrastinator!!  I tried to have Charlie do it before he went into work this morning but he said that they don't open until 9 am.  Well better go hop in the shower so I can get Abbie bathed and get going on my day.

Video of the Week (Exciting & Memorable)

It's been an exciting week for Abbie (and Mom too!!)

  • She is now crawling on all fours.  Although she does occasionally plop down back on her stomach and Army crawl if she needs to go somewhere fast.
  • She is pulling herself up on furniture, toys, her parents.
  • And tonight...drum roll please...SHE STOOD ALONE WITH NO ASSISTANCE!!
And I just happen to have the video camera recording to catch it for the first time.

But please take your time on walking, Abbie. Your mom can't handle you growing up so fast. :(

Video of the Week

Here I am again...late on the video of the week.  Please forgive me.  I have no excuse except I was incredibly too lazy over the weekend and didn't get around to posting it.

Just another sign that my baby is growing up entirely way too fast.  It was hard but I was strong and held back the tears as Charlie lowered the crib so she wouldn't fall out.  Now when I go in to give her a kiss goodnight, she is a whole lot further down and I'm afraid that I'm going to fall in and not be able to get out.

Sad News in Abbie World

So yesterday I received sad news.  Abbie's babysitter told me that she is quitting daycare and going back to work.  She has been the only one watching Abbie since I returned to work in January when she was seven weeks old.  She lives two houses down from me and Abbie was the only other child that she watched besides her son.  I'm so upset over the whole thing.  This is the woman who 7 months ago I was terrified to leave my newborn baby with and now I don't want to lose her!!  I'm scared to start all over.  To search for the perfect woman to watch my child.  A woman who can give my daughter the attention that she has received from Cynthia all of this year.  And what will this do to my daughter?  She is going to be going to a new place and be around new people.  I'm sure she will manage and it will probably be harder on me than her.  So today I started calling around for a new daycare provider.  Cynthia should know by the end of this week when she will start but it sounds like I have about a month.  So please send some prayers my way as I look for the next perfect caretaker for Abbie.

Video of the Week

Wow, what a weekend!!  I was busy doing my matriarchal duties.  Cleaning house, laundry, cooking, playing with my daughter.  I did lay down this afternoon and took a nap with Abbie for about an hour.  Now begins another week at work, a full 5 day week at that.  :(

It's after midnight and I'm up watching Big Brother online.  That is the one thing that sucks about not having cable.  I have to wait until shows posts online before I can watch them.

Well Big Brother is over and it's time for this tired Mama to go to bed.  But before I go, I leave you with this cute & adorable video of my girl.

Very Belated Video of the Week

Due to being on vacation last week, I was not able to post the video of the week. Please forgive me.

My daughter has recently discovered the dog's dishes. Now whenever I put her on the floor in the kitchen, she darts right over to them.

Move over Martha Stewart!!

I have always been one that likes to cook. I am always surfing on the Internet for new recipes that I can try. Some of them have been very successful while others have been an epic fail. So when Abbie was introduced to solids, I thought it would be great to make her baby food. I admit it, I tried jarred baby food. Abbie ate it and she appeared to like it. But it made me wonder what exactly was in those jars. And did you ever notice the expiration date of two years on commercial baby food. That just isn’t right. I want my daughter to eat something that is fresh and I know exactly what she is consuming. I was kind of hesitant at first because it seemed like it would be time consuming, but it really isn’t. I bought this book from Border’s and began to read up on homemade baby food. The best way to prepare baby food is to steam it. Steaming is the best way to preserve the fresh taste and vitamins in vegetables and fruits. This cook book also has several recipes that you can make for your baby. Although some of the recipes kind of make me wonder. “Fillet of Fish in an Orange Sauce”, “Salmon Surprise”?? Do people really feed their children that? YUK!! So far I have stuck with the basics. Green beans, sweet potatoes, apples, peaches, pears, etc. You just steam it, then puree it in the blender until it’s to the consistency that you baby can eat it. Then you stick it in some ice cube trays and freeze. Then you just have to pop them in the microwave to thaw when you are ready to feed your little one. After the first taste of homemade baby food, Abbie said, “MMMMMM!!” That alone reassured me that I had made the right decision in preparing her own baby food.

On the Road Again

Greetings!! I am coming to you from the road. Today marks day 1 of our Summer Vacation. We are currently on our way to Nebraska for six days to visit family and friends over the 4th of July holiday. We haven’t been there since December when Abbie was a month old. Everyone is so excited to see her and how much she has grown. No one has expressed any interest in seeing her parents. Don’t they know that if it wasn’t for us, that she wouldn’t be here!! Oh well, I’m sure I will get a mommy vacation over the next six days. Abbie has been an excellent little traveler thus far. She fell asleep shortly after we got on the highway and hasn’t awoken yet. I have brought plenty of books and toys to keep her entertained on the road. Both of the dogs are passed out sleeping. They too are good in the car. They are nervous at first but once we are on the highway for awhile, they settle in and fall asleep.

While on the road, I hope to get reacquainted with my blog. It seems like when I’m at home I never find the time to sit down and write. Before I decided to become an accountant, I wanted to become a journalist. I used to love to write!! It seems like that has slipped away from me and I would like to find that passion again. So stay tuned for more updates as we make our trek to Nebraska!!
