A week of firsts...

  • I cleaned my entire house in one weekend.  This isn't exactly a first for my lifetime but it is a first since becoming a mother of a toddler.

  • I ran my first 5K race with a time of 35:??.  I went into this race terrified and thinking that I wouldn't be able to finish.  But I indeed finished very strong and very satisfied with myself.  I did not run the entire race so I lost the bet but I still made a very good time so I am planning on buying myself a new pair of shoes to start training for my next race!!  Although with the Oklahoma heat, I am going to have to figure out how to train indoors.

The Great Saturday Morning Debacle

Good Mornin' ya'll!!  Don't worry, I don't use that term all the time so don't think I'm some sort of Southern Belle or Redneck Hillbilly.  My Nebraska roots run deep.  Well it's Saturday morning and I am faced with the Great Saturday Morning Debacle.  Do I a) go back to bed while snuggling with my baby girl or b) stay awake and get things done so I can take a nap with my baby girl this afternoon?  Decisions, decisions.  I think I'll go with the latter.  My washer & dryer are out in the garage and I would like to get all the laundry done before it gets too hot outside.  I am about half way done so I should beat the heat.  I also need to do some cooking today. We are going over to our friends' house tonight and I am bringing meat wrapped pickles, cucumber & onion salad and strawberry poke cake dessert.  I also need to go to the tag office to get my car licensed since it's the last day of the month.  Yep that's me, the procrastinator!!  I tried to have Charlie do it before he went into work this morning but he said that they don't open until 9 am.  Well better go hop in the shower so I can get Abbie bathed and get going on my day.

Call me crazy...

...but I cancelled cable last week. It was a decision that I had been stewing over for a good month before I actually called the cable company and told them I'd like to cancel. There are many good reasons why I cancelled it.

  1. Raising a child isn't cheap people. Forking over $100 a week for someone to watch your child can really put a kink in one's household budget.

  2. This website. What we can't watch on TV, most of them we can watch here. And did you know that there are a lot of old shows you can watch online? Like She-Ra: Princess of Power. Yes, I watched it as a child and I enjoyed it. Don't judge.

  3. Our TV shows have wrapped up for the season and there really isn't much on TV during the summer except for reality shows. I love me some reality shows but I can always watch them online (see #2).

  4. The cleanliness of my house has been put on the back burner. Not just my weekly cleaning but there is a lot of spring cleaning that I need to get done. You know like washing windows and cleaning ceiling fans and dusting baseboards. So I'm a little anal with my cleaning. One of the best feelings for me is enjoying a clean house.

  5. I have so much junk that I don't use that I would like to get rid of. You know, like that spiral curling iron you have had since junior high or your size 8 shorts that you bought after losing all of that weight on Weight Watchers. Face it Megan. It's been 8 years since you could fit in those shorts. You had a baby. Your figure will never be the same. GET RID OF THEM!!
  6. This little girl. She grows up so fast. I need to cherish the time I have with her now. Because once she is a teenager and wants nothing to do with me, I will have all the time in the world to be a couch potato.
Which by the way is throwing a fit in her Exersaucer next to me so I better wrap this up and tend to her.

One of those days

Today is one of those days. You know when you wake up and just want to stay in bed all day. I was slow moving. I didn't get out of the house until 7:55 am and I still had to drop Abbie off at daycare and didn't make it into work until 8:15 am. Then once I got to work I just didn't feel like working. I need to shave my legs. The stubble is about to drive me nuts. And then there is my hair. I curled it out and it's about to drive me insane. I pulled the sides back and I'm feeling a little better.

Charlie's grandma is coming down to visit with his great aunt & uncle Friday & Saturday. This will be their first visit to our home. I didn't think they would be staying with us until I called her last night to check in with them and she says, "I was going to call you. Do you have a guest room? Do you mind if we stay with you?" It doesn't bother me having them stay with us but now I feel like I need to do more cleaning!! I got quite a bit of cleaning done this weekend but it still doesn't feel clean. I hate to dust (a trait I got from my grandma). So I need to dust my entire house. I got the computer room straightened up & I need to make the guest room bed and tidy up the house a bit. I really appreciate a mother that taught me to have a clean house but I think I take it to a new level. I am OCD when it comes to cleaning. I used to be a weekly cleaner but now with Abbie, I do it when I can. There are many things in life that make me happy. One of them being able to sit down and relax in a clean house. Another would be the feeling of smooth, stubble free legs.
